QA Engineer Intern
About the role
KetaPay moves real money between real people, so quality isn't optional — it's the product. As a QA Engineer Intern, you'll work across our mobile app, web platform, and API to find bugs before users do. You'll write test plans, execute manual test passes, help build out our automated test suite, and work directly with engineers to reproduce and verify fixes. This is a hands-on role for someone who takes pride in breaking things the right way.
What you'll do
- Write and execute manual test cases across the Expo mobile app and Next.js web app
- Perform regression testing before releases and flag issues before they ship
- Reproduce, document, and file clear, actionable bug reports
- Help build and maintain automated tests (unit, integration, and E2E) alongside engineers
- Verify bug fixes and close the loop with the engineering team
- Test critical flows end-to-end — escrow creation, payments, KYC, notifications
- Contribute to test plans for new features before they're built
What we're looking for
- Strong attention to detail — you notice when something feels off, even without reproducing it right away
- Understanding of software testing fundamentals: test cases, test plans, regression vs. exploratory testing
- Comfortable using apps on both iOS and Android for manual testing
- Clear written communication — you can describe a bug so an engineer can reproduce it in one read
- Basic understanding of how web and mobile apps work end-to-end
Nice to have
- Exposure to automated testing tools (Playwright, Jest, Deno test, Detox, or similar)
- Basic scripting or programming experience (JavaScript/TypeScript a plus)
- Familiarity with bug tracking tools like Linear, Jira, or GitHub Issues
- Interest in fintech, payments, or trust & safety systems
What you'll learn
- How QA works in a production fintech product handling real transactions
- The difference between manual and automated testing, and when to use each
- How to write test plans that engineers actually want to work from
- Root cause thinking — not just finding bugs, but understanding why they happen
- How mobile (Expo/React Native) and web (Next.js) QA differs in practice
Perks & benefits
- Fully remote — work from anywhere in Nigeria
- Direct exposure to every part of the product, not just one feature area
- Mentorship from senior engineers on the team
- Monthly stipend
- Path to a full-time offer for strong performers
- This role is designed with undergraduates in mind, though postgraduate applicants are welcome to apply
